Description
Introducing the Blue Brazos Dwarf Crayfish, a miniature freshwater crayfish that features a very
striking bright blue color! Dwarf crayfish are also known as mini lobsters, although true lobsters
do not exist in freshwater. Blue Brazos Dwarf Crayfish originate in the USA and are similar to
the Orange CPO Crayfish in appearance and behavior, aside from the obvious difference in
color. When kept in a pH consistently at or below 6.8, the Blue Brazos Crayfish will retain its
blue color throughout its adulthood. If the pH is higher, it may revert back to a brown or tan
color after molting, so a pH sensor or test strips are essential.
Dwarf crayfish like this one are among our favorite invertebrates here at Aquatic Arts and an
excellent choice for the nano aquarium or night stand tank. They are larger than dwarf shrimp
(they can grow up to 1.6 inches long) and tend to live much longer, but are still small enough to
comfortably live in a tank as small as 5 gallons. They are active and don’t typically hide during
the day like most larger crayfish. They are a great starter invertebrate if you’re new to the
hobby or haven't joined the invertebrate craze already!
Though this crayfish is small enough not to be a threat to most other tank inhabitants, they
have on occasion gone after dwarf shrimp (such as Sakura Red Cherry Shrimp, or Neocaridina
davidi), so there is a slight risk when keeping them in the same tank. They will eat high-quality
granules or pellets, plants, and freeze-dried or frozen foods. Cuttlebone can be added to the
aquarium to supplement calcium and will aid in exoskeleton production.

These do not hideout during daylight hours like most crayfish – they are very active.
However, they do best in tanks with lots of décor or live aquatic plants, such as a
Marimo Moss Ball.
Brazos Dwarf Crayfish are mostly peaceful and do well with most peaceful aquarium fish
and other animals, though they occasionally have been known to make a meal of dwarf
shrimp.
This listing is for 1 unsexed B grade young adult crayfish, which is simply a specimen that
